2016 Spring Regatta Season Starts with a Bang
The B-CC Crew Team had a sparkling start to the 2016 spring season with its first race on April 2 at the Regional Park Regatta at the Occoquan Reservoir in VA. Competing against a line-up of 30 teams, our boys and girls varsity and freshman squads placed in the top 3 in all events.
The varsity boys swept their races with first place finishes for our first, second, third, and fourth varsity eights (1V: Kerrie Wilson - cox, Alex Godwin, Andrei Pinkus, Corey Emery, Jackson Prettyman, Henry Bellew, Sean McNeely, Laithe Zughaib, Adrian Wong-Valle) (2V: Leo Duch-cox, Andre Nadeau, Jacob Nibali, Ethan Gudmundsson, Ezra Roberts, Asher Prusky, Will Corcoran, Nick Loew, Max Niebylski) (3V: Grace Wagner-cox, Jake Gross, Jacob Paul, Henry Germaine, Will Fusting, Will Hugonnet, Holland Emery, Matt Floyd, Jake Stark) (4V: Luke Denbo-cox, Evan Kostelecky, Franco Valdivieso, Jackson Kalat, Zach Harkness, Logan Brenan, Seth Roberts, Johnny Molyneaux, Alpha Bah).
With strong performances in their events, the girls first varsity eight placed second in the final after winning their heat (Caitlin Fox - cox, Kelsey Chan, Penny Saltzman, Claire Holmvik, Quinlyn Spellmeyer, Olivia McGrath, Sara Neilsen, Fallon Walsh, Talia Turnham), and the second varsity eight placed third in a competitive field (Nandita Kohli – cox, Natalia Sutherland, Emma Godwin, Julia Goodwin, Talia Turnham, Mariama Bangoura, Alexis McEwen, Emma Gronda, Alana Dixon).
The freshman girls placed first in their races with impressive margins of 24.68 seconds for the first freshman eight and 14.7 seconds for the novice eight (girls freshman 8: Kate Farmer – cox, Julia Soumela, Renee Hester, Jenna Adler, Jamie Murray, Anna Pinkerton, Mae DuFour, Annabelle Kim, Danielle Rockman) (girls novice 8: cox-Julia Kloner, Juliet Niebylski, Alisa Forsberg, Cindy Matsiko, Maggie Hodge, Rebecca Letsinger, Tessa Adler, Tara Mullen, Gwyn Sonneveldt).
And last but not least, was our freshman boys eight, which Coach Todd was heard to say from the Virginia shoreline "took off like a shot rabbit" and rowed to first place by a margin of 20 seconds (William Leclerc-cox, Daniel Villalobas, Gabriel Kirk, Alessandro Gagarin, Anthony Albayaty, Hagan Ausmann, Gabe Botero, Logan Brenan, Cole Killian).
The athletes are looking forward to a busy and challenging April and May as they compete against teams at home on the Potomac, on the Anacostia River, in Middletown, DE, and in Chestertown, MD before closing out the season at national regattas at the end of the school year.
